An unsightly area at the end of a popular walking route in Brackendale is now much easier on the eyes.
The 麻豆社国产Nation, the District of 麻豆社国产(DOS), Atwell Contracting, Golder Associates Ltd. and Carney's Waste Systems dealt with a site on the Wai-W A-Kum reserve this week where tires were dumped.
The project partners decided to make the removal of the discarded tires the final event in Squamish's Pitch-In Week festivities.
SiSolia of the 麻豆社国产Nation, commonly known as Coun. Donna Billy, said the tires were sitting close a spawning slough know as Jimmy Jimmy Slough.
"It is a perfect example of bridging the gap and working together," said SiSolia.
She said the tires were brought to the site as part of an initiative to create a training opportunity and work for 麻豆社国产Nation Youth. Roofer Richard Moore struck a deal with a member of the 麻豆社国产Nation to run a tire processing operation at the site. The venture halted when Moore's roofing system was called into question and the roof system became the subject of a still unresolved legal dispute.
The discarded tires sat on the 麻豆社国产Nation reserve in plain site of walkers on the 麻豆社国产River dike for years.
Dan Lewis of Atwell Contracting donated his time and the use of his small excavator to prepare the site and load the tires into large waste bins belonging to Carney's. Lewis estimated his time contribution to the project at 12-hours.
