The Howe Sound Cannons kicked off their 11th season in the North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) by splitting a two-game set with the Pirates on Saturday (May 5).
The Cannons won Game ` of the doubleheader 3-2 and then lost 6-4 later that afternoon.
"We won the first game with Alex Wishy pitching an 11-strikeout gem," said Cannons first baseman Tyler Magee. "Troy Morphy didn't skip a beat after missing last year due to injury and was crushing the ball. Manager Jones was a happy camper and hinted on a lot of promise for this upcoming year."
Later that day the Cannons held a team fundraiser at the Mosquito Creek Bar and Grill in North Vancouver with the Lynn Valley Heat ballclub. Both squads took home $2,000 on the evening.
"The fundraiser that night was a success and raised a great amount for our ventures," Magee said.
The Cannons will next take on the A's in a doubleheader in North Vancouver on Saturday (May 12). The team's home opener will take place on May 26 with a barbecue and home run derby planned.
