It鈥檚 all about the bear necessities 鈥 like victory.
Both the midget and bantam teams managed to take the gold in their respective divisions at tournaments they attended over the weekend.
鈥淲e are so proud of this hockey club, especially since it is in its inaugural year,鈥 said team manager Wendy Kearns Moore in an email to The Chief.
鈥淚t has taken about five years to get this pilot project under BC Hockey off the ground. The successes that we are seeing by the creation of these zones teams consisting of players from Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, are truly impressive. With what the coaches, players and families have already learned this season, we are looking forward to the future of the program and many more successes to come.鈥
The midgets took home gold at the Midget A New Year鈥檚 Challenge in Coquitlam. They played six games and went undefeated beating Powell River in the finals with a score of 5-2, said Moore.
In Nanaimo, the bantam team was playing at a different tournament called the Battle of the Bastion.
They put on an undefeated performance, eventually taking on Langley in the finals, Moore said.
It was a nailbiter, with the team being down 0-4 in the beginning, but scoring six unanswered goals. Five of those arrived in the last 10 minutes of the third period,
she said.
