The 麻豆社国产Eagles midget rep team finally put it all together against the North Vancouver Storm on Sunday (Oct. 24).
The Eagles defeated the Storm 4-0 and played a sound game on both sides of the ice. According to Eagles head coach Joe Webber, it was a team effort.
"I really thought our defence and goalie played well today," he said. "And our penalty killing and special teams were great."
Webber was also impressed by the team's uncharacteristically disciplined play.
"I'm pretty sure we're one of the most penalized teams in the league," he said. "But our guys played well-disciplined today. We've been working a lot on keeping our composure as a team and we did that well today."
Webber also pointed out that the team was down four regular starters but he praised the work of the three local affiliated players who stepped in.
The Storm came out strong to start off the game, generating a number of chances but Eagles goalie Jhuty Lyndon was up to the task, stymieing all of their early opportunities. As the first period continued, the Eagles began to control the play and the turning point of the first came when gargantuan defenceman Dylan Mooney drew a penalty after being tripped up. The Eagles opened the scoring on the ensuing power play when Mahood Colby scored after being set-up by Johnathon Fairfax. Curtis Bibber drew the other assist on the goal.
The Eagles continued their strong play in the second, with Lyndon again denying all chances coming his way. Kevyn Sander had a glorious chance to put the Eagles up 2-0 but was stopped on a breakaway. As the period continued, the Storm applied pressure after gaining the man advantage but again, Lyndon stood tall. Issin Chiyasu put the Eagles up by two after scoring on a feed from Bibber, and 麻豆社国产managed to kill off a five on three disadvantage to close off the period.
According to Webber, the five on three kill was a key turning point in the game.
"We kept a really nice and tight triangle on that one," he said of the important kill. "We've been trying to do too much shorthanded this season but it worked for us tonight."
The third period saw Jesse Penner roof an early power play goal to put the Eagles up 3-0 and Chiyasu added another goal to finish the game off. Lyndon earned the well-deserved shutout and the Eagles picked up the 4-0 victory.
It's been an up and down start to the season for the Eagles, who Webber said are playing .500 hockey. The team is currently still in the tiering stage with regular season games happening in November.
The team will next host Hollyburn on Sunday (Oct. 31) at Brennan Park Arena. Face-off for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
