Halloween coming early for SWS

Annual Kiteoween to take over the Spit on Saturday

It's still more than two months until Halloween but the 麻豆社国产Windsports Society (SWS) is planning on dressing up a little early.

The fourth annual Kiteoween event is set to take over the 麻豆社国产Spit on Saturday (Aug. 31) and the waters of Howe Sound should be packed with kiteboarders in all sorts of silly and strange outfits.

Spectators are encouraged to come check out all the action, which gets underway at approximately 1 p.m.

But it's not just all fun, games and bizarre outfits - there's several prizes and bragging rights up for grabs on the afternoon.

All competitors must be dressed in costume, be experienced kiteboarders and know the coloured flag system. Contests include: best freestyle in costume, biggest air in costume, best overall costume, best couple costume and many more.

Some of the prizes up for grabs include a stand-up paddleboard package, personalized harnesses, a horseback ride for two and other kite-related equipment and apparel.

It's been one of the busiest summers in recent memory for the SWS, with the annual West Coast Open/Canadian Championships and the first-ever Kiteclash freestyle event taking over the Spit. Kiteoween is generally seen as the last big event of the summer for the SWS.
