The Reel Rock film tour is turning five and wants 麻豆社国产to help celebrate a half-decade of breathtaking films.
The tour rumbles into 麻豆社国产Nov. 18 at the Howe Sound Brew Pub with six 15 to 20-minute adventure films featuring death-defying rock and ice climbing sequences packed into one memorable evening.
"This is the best of the best," said event organizer Ivan Hughes. "These are the best films of the year in climbing and we really like to connect these films to communities like 麻豆社国产who enjoy the sport."
According to Hughes, 麻豆社国产is a perfect stop for the tour, which is exemplified by its routine annual sold out status.
"麻豆社国产is a pretty natural fit for the Reel Rock," he said. "There's a really strong climbing community in town and the good thing for the tour is it comes through town during the rainy season."
The tour is popular not only for the films but also for the opportunity to gather and celebrate an activity the community is so passionate about, he said.
"It seems like every year it's a wildly popular event," he said. "The climbers all love the atmosphere and it's nice to get everyone together at once."
This year features a number of different entries starting with Chris Sharma's attempts in Spain entitled First Round, First Minute.
Next up will be The Hardest Moves, a look at bouldering, then Origins: The Hulk, a take on Peter Croft and Lisa Rands on the Incredible Hulk wall in the Sierras in California.
The films then go Down Under to follow ascents on wild sea cliffs in Tasmania in Down and Out, and Under. Extreme vertical exploration is the theme of the fifth film, Fly or Die. FreeBASE jumps along with highline and wingsuit jumps are featured.
Last up is The Swiss Machine, which tells the story of Ueli Steck and his attempts to break speed records in both the Alps and Yosemite.
"It's just got some insane climbing and really showcases Steck's talent," said Hughes.
Hughes also pointed out that there will be a silent auction during the films and a portion of the proceeds will help out a local group.
For the past few years, the proceeds have assisted the Bouldering Co-op but Hughes said this year's recipient is still to be determined and details are being worked out.
Tickets for the event are available in advance on www.whattheheck.ca for $13 or at the door the day of the event for $15.
