Ricker wins, stays in hunt for Crystal Globe

Squamish's Ma毛lle Ricker won her second straight World Cup snowboard cross race this week, putting her into contention for the award given to the overall World Cup champion for the season.

Ricker, the 2010 Olympic gold medalist in the discipline, on Wednesday (March 14) continued her comeback from a shoulder injury she suffered last season by winning the final of a World Cup race in Valmalenco, Italy. She came into the race after having captured gold in the previous World Cup race in Stoneham, Que.

The season's final race is scheduled on Thursday (March 15) in Valmalenco, with Ricker, fellow Canadian Dominique Maltais and Alexandra Jeskova of Bulgaria still in the running for the Crystal Globe - given to the person who earns the most points during the season's World Cup events.

Jeskova placed second in Wednesday's race, while Maltais,from Petite-Riviere-St-Fran莽ois, Que.,finished fourth.
