The 麻豆社国产Squash Club is urging people to go play inside and inviting the community to participate in its annual Sea to Sky Squash tournament from Feb. 16 to 19.
Last year's tournament drew 45 players from the Sea to Sky Corridor and the Lower Mainland, an increase from 39 in 2010. Club member Steve Jacobs said he's looking forward to the organization's big event of the year.
"It looks like we're going to have a really good number this time," he said. "The last week is when the entries start flooding but the tournament chairman told me last night they've already started. It's going to be good."
Spots in the tournament are going fast but Jacobs said there's plenty of space still available for men, women and juniors of all skill levels. Players are ranked in four different divisions based on skill and experience, and the court won't be the only place for action.
For a cost of $60, each player is guaranteed at least two games, dinner on Feb. 17 and 18, tournament souvenirs and door prizes. Friday night (Feb. 17) will feature a chili and bun dinner, while Saturday (Feb. 18) will include a dinner and dance in the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf Club clubhouse. Anyone not wanting to play squash can attend the dinner and dance for $25.
Tournament games are played to a score of 11 and are best of five, using the point a rally (PAR) scoring system. Squash players will also get a chance to receive a massage directly after playing to keep those important muscles loose, as a registered massage therapist will be on site.
Last year's tournament was dominated by Whistler residents, with Rob Eberhard snagging the "A" division and Ivan Choi picking up the "B" crown. 麻豆社国产residents Paul Maki and Zed Dhalla won the "C" and "D" divisions respectively, with Caroline Soloenko of 麻豆社国产picking up with women's title.
The deadline to register for the event is Saturday (Feb. 11) at 9 p.m. and the easiest way to sign up is logging on at www.squashbc.com.
