麻豆社国产Tri returns

18th annual event attracts top athletes from all over

The waters of Alice Lake and the trails of Brackendale are all set for the 18th annual 麻豆社国产Triathlon on Sunday (July 12).

The Triathlon BC-sanctioned event will see hundreds swim, bike and run in both Olympic and sprint distance events. Hundreds annually compete in the event.

Olympic distance racers brave Alice Lake for a 1.5 kilometre swim, 37 km cycle and 10 km run. Sprint participants swim for 750 metres, cycle 18.5 km and run five km.

It all kicks off at 9:30 a.m., with swimmers taking on the waters of Alice Lake. From there, competitors transition to bikes in the Alice Lake parking lot before winding their way out of the park, across the highway and into Brackendale.

The event is also open to relay competitors, with two or three-person teams splitting up the three courses.

Proceeds from the event help fund the Robert W. McIntosh Scholarship Foundation for Howe Sound Secondary School students with leadership skills, athletic abilities and post-secondary goals. This year鈥檚 recipients were Ollie Rizun and Keara Klimchuk-Brown.

Just like last year, the Thule Adventure Team has donated a chariot carrier for a silent auction to help fund the scholarship. The event is also still looking for volunteers, anyone interested can email [email protected].
