U17 cup run ends

The U17 girls select team lost its bid for the soccer provincials after dropping the Coastal Cup semi-final 4-0 to the visiting Vancouver United Wolfpack at Brennan Park Sunday afternoon.

The game was closer than the final score indicates, although the 麻豆社国产team was in tough from the start.聽

The Vancouver side, the winners from the top Lower Mainland division, seemed in control early, although the 麻豆社国产backline players were able to break up most of the Vancouver attack.

The visitors tallied their first goal midway through the half. 麻豆社国产rallied as the half went on but could never quite break through the Wolfpack defence.

麻豆社国产players were able to push the ball upfield, with much of the offence generated off the boots of Tanya Fearon and Kyley Rosser on the right wing.聽

However, Vancouver took advantage of breaks to score more goals.

Even with the loss, 麻豆社国产coach Brent Williston was proud of his players.

鈥淲e ran into some stiff competition today,鈥 he said. 鈥滻t wasn鈥檛 for lack of effort.鈥

Minor hockey awards

Geordie Elson won the John Hunter Award for contributions to hockey as 麻豆社国产Minor Hockey held its annual awards night on April 7. Among the players, Jashan Gill (C1) and Destynee Teather (C2) won the Bob Hills Memorial Trophy for most improved peewee.聽 Jacob Reatty (C) received the Terry Salmon Memorial award from most improved bantam. Gabe Kryzonoski (A), Otis Geddes (C1) and Brodie Hayden (C2) won the awards for most sportsmanlike players at the midget level. Jen Van Dam-Reed and Troy Lynn were picked as volunteers of the year.聽

Coaches of the year were Tim Knight (A), Elliot Moses (C) and Pete Pearson (H), while Emma Moses was manager of the year.

85 climbers compete聽

聽The Group Up Climbing Centre hosted Gravity Wars on Saturday for 85 competitors ranging in age from nine years to their late 40s. The men鈥檚 open category was won by local 麻豆社国产crusher Tosh Sherkat, while Chloe Earle from the Climb Base5 gym in Coquitlam took the women鈥檚 open category.聽

Trails AGM tonight

The 麻豆社国产Trails Society (STS) holds its monthly meeting the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the 麻豆社国产Arts Council Building, across from the August Jack Motel on Cleveland Avenue.聽Everyone is welcome. The annual general meeting will be held tonight, April 21, from 7 to 9 p.m.聽
