The Quest University Kermodes men鈥檚 soccer team kept pace in the Pacwest playoff race with a win and a tie last weekend, but the big test goes down this weekend.
Quest has a home and home with the undefeated VIU Mariners, one of the top teams in the country and points could be tough to come by.
The Kermodes fuelled their playoff dreams with a 1-0 win over the KPU Eagles in 麻豆社国产on Saturday (Sept. 27). Striker JB McEown scored the game鈥檚 only goal in the second half to seal the win for Quest.
It was a different story for the Kermodes against the Langara Falcons on Sunday (Sept. 28), as they fell behind early and never recovered, losing 2-0 in Richmond.
Quest鈥檚 play improved in the second half, with McEown coming close to scoring on a free kick outside the box and Max Tagesen being robbed on a point blank chance by Falcons goalkeeper Lukas Strauts, who was strong in between the pipes.
The Kermodes have scored by far the fewest goals in the Pacwest, only beating keepers six times this season. The lack of goal scoring could hurt Quest, as tiebreakers are decided by goal differential.
The men鈥檚 team sits tied for third with Langara and Douglas College at 11 points, with a record of three wins, four losses and two ties. After VIU, there is a logjam in the Pacwest with only five points separating second from sixth.
For the Quest women it was another winless weekend and the squad鈥檚 playoff hopes are becoming bleak.
The Kermodes lost 1-0 to the KPU Eagles in 麻豆社国产on Saturday and it was the first time this season that the team has been shut out.
Quest did manage to get on the board against Langara on Sunday but Gabriella Villasenor鈥檚 tying goal in the 12th minute wasn鈥檛 enough as the Kermodes fell 2-1 to the Falcons.
Goal scoring continues to be an issue for the Quest women, as they鈥檝e only scored nine goals in the first nine games of the regular season.
The loss leaves Quest with a record of one win, five losses and three ties and they鈥檙e now six points out of a playoff spot. It doesn鈥檛 get any easier for the women, who have a home and home series against the top ranked VIU Mariners this weekend.
Quest travels to Vancouver Island on Saturday (Oct. 4) and then the teams host the Mariners in 麻豆社国产on Sunday (Oct. 5).
