A dog has been safely reunited with its owners after it fell off a cliff in Oregon.
The dog, named Leo, needed to be rescued from Ecola State Park in the U.S. on Jan 1.
As first responders were getting set up to rappel down the cliffside, a U.S Coast Guard (USCG) aircrew from Astoria started flying to the location.
Once on location, the USCG Pacific Northwest team deployed a rescue swimmer from the helicopter.
Hoist camera footage shows the individual dropping down into the ocean near Indian Beach and slowly approaching the dog.
The coast guard member can be seen kneeling down beside the dog and securing it to a basket. The dog is then hoisted back up to the helicopter.
A member can be heard asking over the radio, "Is this your first dog rescue, Jason?"
"First dog rescue," the person responds.
Moments later, at 4:15 p.m., the aircraft lands in the parking lot. Leo is carried over to its owners, who are waiting nearby.
A man and a woman, presumed to be the owners, walk over to the rescuer and wrap their arms around the dog. The video also shows the pair thanking and hugging the rescuer.
“Awe! Hugs. Hugs all the way around. Love it!" crew members can be heard saying on the radio.
Leo’s owners say he’s doing well with only a few cuts and bruises. He spent the night at an emergency vet.
"All things considered, he is doing good. We are so thankful he is alive and expected to recover,” says the couple.
Many people on social media were quick to thank the rescuers for the update on the dog and for saving the pet.
