A Burnaby woman was caught driving the wrong way on Highway 1 in North Vancouver early Monday morning.

A Burnaby woman caught driving the wrong way on Highway 1 with a flat tire Monday has been banned from driving for 90 days after failing a breath test, according to police.

North Vancouver RCMP got multiple calls just before 3 a.m. about a white Kia with a flat tire travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes near the Lynn Valley exit, according to an RCMP news release.

Officers caught up with the vehicle near the Westview Drive exit.

When officers engaged with the driver, they noted signs of impairment, according to the release, and the 30-something woman went on to fail a breath test.

She was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

"Wrong-way drivers on a highway pose an extreme danger to motorists, especially when they are impaired," North Vancouver RCMP Const. Mansoor Sahak said in the release. "Fortunately, officers were able to act quickly and with assistance of the public were able to locate this dangerous driver before a collision occurred."
