Two people were injured when their car crashed into the side of a Langford pub on Saturday morning. Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey said he responded to a call at the Loghouse, at the intersection of Treanor Avenue and Millstream Road, just after 11:30 a.m.

“We were called for a vehicle had gone into the building and that two occupants were trapped and gas was leaking,” Aubrey said. “It’s not that far from our station so we got there really, really quickly.”

The two occupants got out of the vehicle on their own and were treated at the scene for minor injuries, he said. A B.C. Emergency Health Services spokesperson said that one person was transported to hospital for additional treatment.

Firefighters quickly stopped a gas leak from patio heaters that were damaged.

The patio log wall helped to mitigate some of the impact of the crash, Aubrey said.

“I shudder to think of what might have happened if the vehicle didn’t go through that first — how much damage would have gone to the building as well as much more severe injuries for the occupants,” he said.

Tania Schibli, the pub’s general manager, said it “felt like an earthquake” when the car hit the side of the building. Six tables were on that side of the pub, but no one was hurt, she said.

The driver, in his late 70s, may have had a health issue that caused the crash, Schibli said.

“He kind of flew through the intersection, hit the curb, hit the logs and then right into our building,” she said.

“The logs actually shifted on that side of the building, so we had to get the engineer in to take a look at the logs to make sure they were stable.”

The pub reopened about 4 p.m. with the affected corner cordoned off.
