A sturdy breeze didn’t deter teams of canoe racers from going all out at this year’s Swa虂ywey虛 (Ambleside Beach) Canoe Races.
Spectators cheered on their teams on Saturday as the paddlers completed a loop that starts east of the Welcome Figure, out to Dundarave, then back again. The two-day annual event kicked off the S岣祑x瘫wú7mesh Úxwumixw (麻豆社国产Nation) .
Amalgamation Day is July 23, 100-years after a document was signed by 16 First Nations chiefs to assemble as one governing body, which is known today as 麻豆社国产Nation.
Following the canoe races, this month there will also be evenings dedicated to drumming and singing, lacrosse games, talent shows, cultural activities, ceremonies, and a large festival on Amalgamation Day itself.
