Whistler has long been known as one of Canada's favourite vacation getaway spots—and according to vacation-rental site Vrbo, one property in the resort is among the in all of the Great White North.
The eight-bed, eight-bath, 10,000-square-foot "Chalet La Forja" in Kadenwood goes for about $6,882 per night, and calls it "one of, if not the most prestigious short-term rental in all of Whistler."
"This luxurious home includes a gourmet chefs kitchen with a butlers pantry, two private offices, state of the art electronics with built in Sonos speaker systems in every room, gym, hot-tub, heated pool, sauna, private gondola, and access to and from the ski-hill from your front door," the listing reads.
A VIP concierge service is also provided for any special requests such as the top private chefs in Whistler, restaurant reservations, assistance with vehicles and shuttle service, it adds.
If you want the high-end property over the Christmas period, it's going to run you closer to $20,000/night.
Short-term rentals are a hot topic of discussion not just in Whistler, but .
According to the 2016 census, 61 per cent of privately owned dwellings in Whistler sit empty or are at least temporarily occupied for a good chunk of the year. More recent figures from a 2021 housing survey showed that just 10 per cent of all market residential properties are rented on a long-term basis to locals.
Whistler isn't the only B.C. town with top-of-the-line vacation rentals. A property on also made Vrbo's 2023 list.
Other Canadian towns with properties on the list include Banff, Alta.; Wasagaming, Man.; Prince Edward County, Ont.; Muskoka, Ont.; Mont Tremblant, Que.; Chester, N.S.; Sea View, P.E.I.; and Ibex Valley, Yukon.
"The properties, all stunning, whole homes ranging from idyllic oceanside escapes to enchanting treehouses, were selected by Vrbo based on a combination of criteria including star ratings, guest reviews, and Premier Host status," reads a press release. "The list also features a variety of property types, price points, and Canadian landscapes while highlighting standout amenities, breathtaking views, and ample space for spending time together with family and friends."
