Uber Eats is now in Whistler as of Wednesday, Nov. 15, with the online food ordering and delivery platform spreading its coverage of British Columbia to include a further 10 communities.

Whistler and 麻豆社国产are among the 10, which also includes more cities in the Interior and on Vancouver Island.

“Uber Eats will be available in over 275 cities across the country by the end of the year, expanding rapidly as more Canadians embrace the convenience of delivery,” reads a release from Uber Canada.

The company positioned itself in the release as a solution for Canadians affected by economic headwinds—presenting home delivery as a way for the restaurant industry to stay competitive and a way for workers to earn more.

“As cities and towns across Canada grapple with challenging macroeconomic trends, Uber Eats offers local restaurants a new way to connect with hungry customers and local delivery people to make delivery fast and easy," the release said. "Our expansion into new cities in British Columbia also means that we’re creating flexible earning opportunities for people from all walks of life who choose to deliver on the platform.”

As of Day 1, only a small handful of Whistler businesses appear on the Uber Eats App. The company announced in the release it will run a special offer of $0 delivery fees in the 10 cities listed: Vernon, Whistler, Mission, Courtenay, Campbell River, Penticton, Duncan, Cranbrook, Fort St. John, and Squamish.

Uber claims the number of Canadians using its platform has increased six times over since 2019, and touts itself as the leading online delivery platform in Canada.

While Uber Eats is now available locally, Uber’s most famous offering, rideshare, is not.
