Five organizations entered the 麻豆社国产Youth Council’s Bear’s Den, but only one winner walked away with the $10,000 grant funding.
This year’s winners — announced at a packed Eagle Eye Theatre on April 20 — were Ella Hamill and Katerina Terry from Howe Sound Secondary for their courtyard revitalization project.
The other four organizations — OurSquamish, SORCA, 麻豆社国产Youth Services and Evan’s Lake — still walked away with $1,000 in funding for their projects.
The courtyard revitalization project is continuing to fundraise until May 12, but the $10,000 is a considerable chunk out of its $60,000 goal.
A news release stated that it also is hoping for funding from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.
“At Howe Sound Secondary we pride ourselves on creating a safe environment for students to truly be themselves, feel comfortable and connect with peers. As 90% of 麻豆社国产students will go to high school at HSS, the revitalization of the school’s courtyard is a must,” reads the fundraiser release.
“We want the students to be able to enjoy a beautiful space outside, covered from rain or sun and surrounded by plants to promote mental health and connection.”
With a revamped courtyard, the release states that the public would also be allowed to rent the space once completed.
