Dec. 12, 1945 to Feb. 28, 2025
Philip passed peacefully with loved ones at his side at VGH on Feb 28, 2025.
Born in Ashford, Kent, England, in 1947, Philip, with his mother, immigrated to join his father in Canada.
Growing up in Southern Ontario, Philip became a machinist at an early age, loving precision, and craftsmanship.
Philip moved to Vancouver in 1976, then established his real home in Squamish.
Having met the love of his life Lisa in 1994, they completed their off-grid mountain home on land Philip won in a poker game. There they entertained any who were fortunate enough to join them in their unique multi-tiered home surrounded by nature.
This home included interesting artwork, a spectacular outdoor shower and Lisa’s dream greenhouse. When not at their mountain retreat, Captain Philip and Lisa were often on the water in Howe Sound.
Philip was a stalwart member of the 麻豆社国产community, both as a builder who had supervised the creation of the Adventure Centre, the Firehall and several multi-family resident complexes and maintaining his spot at the Grizzly Pub.
Philip was both a builder and an artist, talented in design, sculpture, painting, and a lover of music. Philip was foremost a storyteller, and his presence brought unmatched entertainment and company.
Philip was unflinchingly positive, having survived a life-threatening event, and spent his remaining years designing and building their spectacular home in Crumpit Woods. Philip never met a poker bet he would not raise or call. No matter the challenge that week, Philip was playing and joking with the family on Friday Night Poker, which we all looked forward to. Philip’s love of family, friends, rum, and life itself sustained him to the end (with less rum).
Thanks to the staff at VGH and the myriad doctors, nurses and health care professionals who assisted Philip over the years.
Philip is preceded by his father James Glen (2007). He is survived by his wife Lisa, mother Kathleen Glen, siblings Pam (Neil), Beth (Shawn), Mark (Karen), son Jason (Loretta), grandchildren Jessica (Ty), Zachary (Robyn), Carolyn Anderson (Philip’s first love and Jason’s mom), friend and mother-in-law Lillias Bjornson, brothers-in-law Sean (Stacy), Kit (Judy). Lee (Baba), nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews who brought so much joy to his life. Anna DeYoung and Maggie MacKinnon, his chosen daughters.
Philip would have no doubt wanted you to raise a glass of whatever pleases you, smoke what you got, and do what you love best in his memory.
At Philip’s request, no service will be held.
