麻豆社国产elected officials took a back seat as several 麻豆社国产students took their turn at running the town on May 31.
Parker Taylor and Bella Romero joined Mayor Armand Hurford, Coun. Andrew Hamilton and other District of 麻豆社国产staff at Municipal Hall as the winners of the annual “Mayor For A Day” contest.
Taylor is a Grade 6 student at Valleycliffe Elementary and Romero is a Grade 3 student at Skyridge Montessori. Romero also brought along her sister, Mila, for extra help.
Despite a busy schedule at hand, the mayors took a break from their duties to take photographs for The 麻豆社国产.
By 9:30 a.m., the mayors had already finished their tour of council chambers and were set to view the police station and fire hall next.
After the tours, they would take a ride in a fire truck back to school where their classmates would be treated to a pizza party for lunch.
The annual contest is a part of Local Government Awareness Week, which happened between May 14 and 20. This year, students were asked to submit creative and original ideas about why they would be fit for mayor.
Other activities in conjunction with the awareness week included a word search contest, colouring contest and trivia contest.
