It’s Super Bowl week here in Squamish!
A number of restaurants and bars will be showing the big game, so here’s a compiled list of places to consider going. But first, some details about the game.
Who’s playing?
This year’s Super Bowl is a rematch of sorts.
The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas with the game starting at 3:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Feb. 11. These two teams also played each other in Super Bowl LIV in February 2020, where Kansas City prevailed 31-20.
But these two teams are fairly different from those squads.
While Kansas City is still helmed by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, San Francisco’s quarterback is now Brock Purdy, who famously was picked last overall in the 2022 draft. Getting picked last is monikered Mr. Irrelevant, but since then he has proven to be a menace boasting a 21-5 overall record as a starter, including the playoffs.
A familiar face on the Kansas City sideline includes tight end Travis Kelce, who broke against the Baltimore Ravens to stamp the team’s ticket to the Super Bowl. Last year, Kelce faced off against his brother, Jason Kelce, in the Super Bowl which Kansas City ultimately won.
Kelce’s when he and 14-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift began dating.
San Francisco looks for their first Super Bowl victory since 1994 whereas Kansas City is aiming for their third victory in five seasons and to be the first repeat champion since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005.
Eight-time Grammy winner Usher will headline the halftime show.
