Chances gets into Loggers Sports action

Axe throwing competition and standup comedian launch Â鶹Éç¹ú²úDays

Sam the Axeman surely approves. The giant logger's new home at the Chances Boardwalk parking lot is also the site of the newest Loggers Sports weekend event - appropriately enough, an axe throwing competition.

On Friday July 30, an audience aged 19 and up can take in the excitement followed by a live standup act by highly acclaimed comedian Chris Molineux, who has performed with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen Degeneres and Jim Carrey.

The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. when the highway-side casino gets into the four-day Â鶹Éç¹ú²úDays Loggers Sports action by hosting the first annual Â鶹Éç¹ú²úDays Invitational Axe Throw Competition.

"This event has never been done before," said Â鶹Éç¹ú²úDays Loggers Sports president Bryan Couture. "It's a great opportunity to draw people into Â鶹Éç¹ú²úDays one day earlier and get them to participate."

Unlike the Loggers Sports novice, intermediate and world class competitions happening Saturday July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1, the invitational allows anyone who can throw an axe to take part, with an eye to wining the $1,500 in prize money. To participate, sign up at the site at 7 p.m.

"I've watched these events on TV and have always been curious to see the action in person" said Chances general manager D'Arcy Stuart. "It's going to be great event and we invite everyone to drop by and take part."

Barbecued fare will also be on hand to satisfy hungry appetites, and the new Chances free shuttle service will be in operation to take people to and from the event.

At 9 p.m., Molineux takes to the stage with an act described as intelligent and oddly insightful, filled with accents, impressions, stories, observations and a healthy dose of physical comedy as well.

Molineux has worked as a professional stand-up comedian since 1986, and headlined at shows across North America, the U.K. and the Caribbean with some of the most notable names in entertainment.

And for those with an eye for visual art, remember to check out the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úArts Council Rock Gallery in the Rock Bar and Grill restaurant located in the upstairs level.
