About 15% of 麻豆社国产residents identify as a visible minority

The latest census release has data on ethnicity, immigration and language.

The latest census numbers show that as of 2021, about 15% of 麻豆社国产identify as a visible minority, while immigrants make up 20% of the town's population.

On Oct. 26, Statistics Canada released its latest dataset from its 2021 surveys, this time revealing ethnic, immigrant and language information about the town's population.

While the federal government has multiple different methods of defining the census area of the town, the results being discussed here are those that fall within the formal municipal boundaries of the District of Squamish.

The findings show that while the town has grown in population, the proportional number of people identifying as visible minorities is similar.

Back in 2016, that number was about 2,800, which was about 14% — roughly one percentage point below what was recorded in 2021.

This number, however, does not include the town's Indigenous population, as the census does not classify people with that ancestry as visible minorities.

The number of people identifying themselves as Indigenous has slightly dropped; 920 people identified themselves as Indigenous in the latest census, while there were 950 back in 2016.
