On Sunday: Capilano University 麻豆社国产campus hosts first conference league games

The games mark the soft opening of the new turf field following its $1.1 million upgrades.

Conference league games are officially back on a 麻豆社国产university turf.

This Sunday, Oct. 6, Capilano University will host its first Pacific Western Athletic Association conference league game on their newly upgraded turf field.

"We are really looking forward to playing at CapU-麻豆社国产on Sunday,” Blues fourth-year women’s midfielder Maya Smith said, in a news release.

The Capilano Blues men’s and women’s teams will face the Langara Falcons.

“It's going to be an important game for us against Langara and gives us a chance to try out the new turf field ahead of nationals next month."

It will be the first PACWEST games at the site since the former Quest University ceased competition in 2018.

The CapU turf was given a $1.1 million facelift this summer after the former Quest University field was left in poor shape following the campus closure in April 2023.

CapU purchased the campus four months later in August and listed the field renovations as a top priority.

Renovation works included repairing the fencing surrounding the playing area, repairing and improving the access points, and completing routine maintenance that had been neglected after Quest University’s closure.

The new turf is all-season, and appropriate for a variety of sports and all kinds of user groups

This weekend's games will be a soft opening of the field one month ahead of the that will be held on Nov. 6 to 9.

"CapU and its partners plan to host an unforgettable national championship in 2024, which will support and inspire student-athletes competing for a CCAA title," Capilano University athletics and recreation director, Georgette Reed, said in a press release earlier this year.

"Working together with local First Nations, Capilano University, and the District of Squamish, we will create a first-class competition and cultural experience for all in attendance."

The Blues women's game is set for a 12 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 6 with the Blues men's game to follow at 2:30 p.m.
