Briefs from the District of 麻豆社国产Council regular meeting Tuesday, July 26:
At the urging of the Select Committee on Business Development, Council directed District of 麻豆社国产(DOS) staff to look into what is required to extend the DOS water main from Ross Road to the municipal airport so the airport has access to municipal water. According to the select committee, the water is a necessity not just for drinking, but as a safety measure in case of fire.
Lonsdale opposes adoption of bylaw
Coun. Corinne Lonsdale maintained her opposition to the way the 麻豆社国产Oceanfront lands are being handled by voting against adoption of the 麻豆社国产Oceanfront Lands Delegation Bylaw.
The adoption passed on the strength of yes votes from the other members of Council.
Lonsdale opposed the bylaw at its first three readings.
SORCA receives grant-in-aid
A 麻豆社国产Off-Road Cycling Association request for a grant-in-aid in the amount of $80.25 to cover the cost of renting the 麻豆社国产Junction Park pavilion for the upcoming GearJammer mountain bike race was approved. The race on Aug. 20 will end at the pavilion.
Run event and soap box derby approved
The Titans Athletic Club received permission to use Perth Drive from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 for the Loop the Lakes trail running event.
The organizers of the Soap Box Derby for Diabetes received permission to use Ross Road in front of Don Ross Secondary for an event on Saturday, Sept. 3 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
