District of 麻豆社国产looking for new public recycling depot

After GFL announced the closure of its recycling depot in May 2024, the District is seeking future options to fill the need. Curbside collection expected to continue as is.

The District of 麻豆社国产announced it is searching for new recycling depot options as the recycling depot on Queens Way will close to the public in May 2024.

In a news release, the District says it received notice from Green For Life (GFL) that the depot will close at the end of October. GFL says the closure is largely due to space constraints and public safety.

“While we have enjoyed the opportunity to share our space for many years with the community and encourage diversion, on-site space constraints, business requirements and public safety considerations are making this change necessary,” GFL wrote in the notice of closure to the District which was included in the release. “We look forward to supporting the community with a transition of this site to a safer location.”

The District noted that its contract with GFL enabled either party to terminate the recycle depot service if given a six-month notice. Furthermore, the District says staff are preparing a report to council that will identify options for the “continuance of this service and a recommended path forward.”

“Recognizing the important role the recycle depot plays in supporting diversion of recyclable waste from the landfill, the new solution will strive to meet goals of accessibility, convenience, and safety for residents and visitors. More information will be shared as this project progresses,” reads the release.

Lastly, the District wrote in an email to The 麻豆社国产 that it did not expect any changes to occur to curbside collection services in the foreseeable future.
