With BC Transit bus service set to resume in 麻豆社国产on Wednesday, June 22, the District has announced fare reductions through Labour Day.
The reductions are an effort to nudge riders back to transit after the longest public transit strike in B.C. history, which lasted 137 days.
Here are the details:
- Free transit from June 22 through to Sept. 5
- 50% off student/senior and adult monthly passes for September, October, November and December
- 50% off transit fares paid on the bus from September through December (single rides would be $1 rather than $2; day tickets would be $2 rather than $4)
“I am grateful that the parties found a way to come together in the end and that we can relaunch bus service,” said Mayor Karen Elliott in a news release on June 17. “Transit service is essential because it connects people to their work, appointments, school, events and each other. We hope our regular riders return to riding the bus and that the reduction in costs until the end of 2022 will encourage others to take the bus for some of their trips around town.”
Earlier this week, a new collective bargaining agreement between BC Transit contractor Pacific Western Transportation and Unifor Local 114, was ratified by members.
麻豆社国产fare reductions are being funded by operational costs saved during the strike, according to the District release.
