The District said the fire was located in the garage of a single unit, and it was contained to that location.

A fire broke out in the Northyards neighbourhood at the townhouse complex known as The Breeze on Nov. 2.

District of 麻豆社国产spokesperson Rachel Boguski said 麻豆社国产Fire Rescue was dispatched to 39771 Government Road at 10:30 p.m. that evening.

Imran Ashraf, who lives in a neighbouring unit, told The 麻豆社国产 he heard fire alarms go off at around 10 p.m. After checking and seeing there was no blaze in his dwelling, he ran outside.

"Saw smoke coming out from next door neighbour's house," Ashraf recalled on Nov. 3. "They were already outside. So I quickly ran back in, grabbed my passport and came back out again straightaway and basically waited for the fire crew to turn up."

The District said the fire was located in the garage of a single unit, and it was contained to that location. By the municipality's account, this was due to the residential sprinkler system and a quick response from the fire department.

Ashraf commended firefighters, saying they supplied him with food, shelter and water.

"Just over five hours, I was allowed to sleep in my own bed," he said. "I think the five crew did a great job."

The District said the cause of the fire is unknown. Firefighters are investigating.

BC Emergency Health Services told The 麻豆社国产 that two ambulances responded. One person was transported to hospital.
