The fate of International Forest Product's (Interfor) prime waterfront property in 麻豆社国产is anybody's guess, but with expressed interest from the 麻豆社国产Oceanfront Development Corp. (SOD Corp.), the District of 麻豆社国产and a local logging company, there's no lack of options.
A contract between Interfor and Elaho Logging for the use of the dry land sort adjacent to the Nexen lands will run out in September, and Interfor officials won't speculate on what the future holds.
"I think it's going to be for sale, but I don't know," said Interfor 麻豆社国产General Manager Bill Rosenburg.
Mayor Ian Sutherland said the district is paying attention to the property because it could potentially fall within the municipal plan, and council is considering buying or partnering with a buyer.
"There are going to be pieces of land along the way that we'll want to be at least involved in because they'll have a direct affect on how we develop the Nexen lands, how the yacht club expands, all kinds of use," said Sutherland. "So we definitely want to be pro-active and help find solutions. It's early days yet in all those discussions, but definitely we want to be a part of it."
Interfor property manager Hew Kidston said that if there continues to be a need for a dry land sort, that's what the property will be used for.
"They're being used for a dry land sort as long as it's needed for a dry land sort. That's as far as it goes," he said. "Once they're no longer needed for dry land sort operations we would eventually find a buyer for them, but beyond that there's no plans."
Kidston said SOD Corp. and District of 麻豆社国产officials have approached the company about their intentions for the property, but neither was pressuring Interfor to sell.
