Here's why the new 麻豆社国产Cleveland Avenue acceleration lane still isn't open

The Ministry of Transportation says it will be changing speed limits and signal times in that area.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) told The 麻豆社国产 that construction of the new southbound acceleration lane was completed on Nov. 18 at a cost of $739,000.

The new acceleration lane from Cleveland onto the southbound stretch of Highway 99 has been complete for some time, but it's still cordoned off by cones.

Why?

Apparently, the Ministry of Transport says the opening of the lane is being delayed, because there will be an upcoming change to the speed limit on a portion of Highway 99.

"The speed limit on Highway 99 in the Cleveland Avenue area is being lowered from 70 km/h to 60 km/h to increase safety for vehicles merging from the new acceleration lane," reads a statement from the ministry.

"Signals at the Cleveland Avenue, Clarke Drive and Valley Drive intersections are being adjusted as a result of the change."

Officials say the ministry is reviewing the proposed new timing of the signals. They're expected to be finalized in the next couple of weeks.

"The objective of traffic signal timing is to minimize delays to any group of vehicles or pedestrians, and to reduce the probability of crashes at the intersection," said the ministry. "Typically, signal timing design entails calculation of yellow, red and green times for individual movements."

When the new limit comes into effect, new speed limit signs will be posted.
