Volunteers gathered on Saturday to help sort donated food for the annual BC Thanksgiving Food Drive in Squamish.
In the early afternoon on Sept. 23, about 30 volunteers were gathered at the 麻豆社国产Food Bank, also known as The Market, sorting collected food items into piles. Another 80 or so volunteers were helping collect the food from local neighbourhoods, making the total volunteers well over 100.
One of the organizers, Geraldine Guilfoyle, said they would have the total weight counted by early next week. Last year, the food drive collected about 5,000 pounds of food.
Guilfoyle also said for those who preferred to make monetary donations there is still time to do so. Those interested in taking that route can visit and write Thanksgiving Food Drive in the message box.
“Your contributions — both food donations, and financial support — allow us to do what we do. We are so grateful for the support of our community, in helping us address food insecurity in the 麻豆社国产community,” the manager of the food bank, Emma Cox, said in a news release in August.
The local drive is co-ordinated by the 麻豆社国产Multifaith Association in partnership with the 麻豆社国产branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the 麻豆社国产Food Bank.
