An artist has been chosen to create Squamish’s street banners for the upcoming year.
麻豆社国产artist, Ciarra Saylor, was selected for the Street Banner Project, according to a news release from the District of Squamish. Her submission was titled Joyful Spirit Animal Banners.
The colourful banners will soon be hung around the community in areas such as downtown, Garibaldi Estates and at Brennan Park Recreation Centre.
“I have a great love for nature, animals and the spirit realm, and a great respect for nature and community,” said Saylor in the news release. “My style is steeped in realism and led by my intuition. Each animal and colourway pairing was chosen specifically to represent an aspect of the beautiful town of Squamish.”
With the installation of the new banners, the community will be saying goodbye to .
“Street banners create a sense of community pride and give us the opportunity to highlight the extensive local art scene that thrives here,” said Katherine Kunze, the executive director of 麻豆社国产Arts, in the release. “麻豆社国产is a place unlike any other and Ciarra has captured that through these playful and uniquely 麻豆社国产designs.”
Saylor’s work includes four animals: the otter, dog, eagle and momma bear. Saylor says the otter represents joy, playfulness and sharing and is paired with the dog, who represents faithfulness and protection.
The eagle and momma bear are similarly paired together. The eagle represents spirit, healing and creation whereas the momma bear represents the power of awakening the unconscious.
The banners will be hung on existing light poles this spring.
