A crash occurred between two marine vessels working on the 麻豆社国产LNG project on Dec. 18, authorities confirm.

鈥擴pdated: Dec. 23, 9: 12 a.m.鈥

A spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada provided more details about the incident, telling The 麻豆社国产 that the boat crash occurred at 7:47 p.m., Dec. 18.

A tug, the Haisla Northwind, towing a barge, crashed into a 22-foot North River Seahawk vessel at the Woodfibre LNG site, causing the Seahawk to sink at a depth of approximately 200 metres.

A very high frequency (VHF) radio mayday call reported a man overboard.

A BC Marine Logistics (BCML) vessel rescued the sole occupant of the boat, who confirmed there were no others on board.

The Seahawk was carrying fuel, according to the TSB.

"A hydrocarbon sheen was observed, and booms were deployed. The tug and barge did not suffer any damage or spillage. Sonar is being used to locate the sunken vessel and a decision will be made by the vessel's insurer on salvage," the TSB spokesperson said.

This incident is still being evaluated by the TSB.

It is too early to say how long this investigation will take before completion, the spokesperson said.

鈥擮riginal story from Dec. 20鈥

A crash occurred between two marine vessels working on the Woodfibre LNG project on the night of Dec. 18, authorities confirm.

"One individual was sent for medical assessment and subsequently released," said Woodfibre LNG's spokesperson, Sean Beardow, in an email to The 麻豆社国产.

The Woodfibre LNG site is located approximately seven kilometres southwest of downtown Squamish, on the west side of Howe Sound.

The incident occurred on the water near the site.

"Woodfibre LNG continues to investigate the incident in conjunction with the parties involved and appropriate regulatory agencies,"  Beardow said.

Scott Shaw-MacLaren, media spokesperson for Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR), Station 4-Squamish, said at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, RCM-SAR 04 was tasked to the boat crash, with the possibility of persons in the water.

The local volunteer marine rescue organization responded with five of its members on the water and two in support roles on shore.

The situation had been largely resolved by Woodfibre LNG-related personnel while the rescuers were in transit, Shaw-MacLaren said.

RCM-SAR arrived and recovered some debris, and then returned to its 麻豆社国产base.

"Woodfibre LNG acknowledges and greatly appreciates RCM SAR鈥檚 response to this incident, and the incredible work their volunteers do year-round in marine emergencies and search and rescue situations,鈥 said Beardow.

鈥淲e also thank BC Marine Logistics and our on-site crews for their good work in response to this incident."

No police boat was involved, according to 麻豆社国产RCMP.
