Several people were hurt with injuries from minor to serious in the crash that closed traffic on Highway 99 for several hours on Thursday afternoon.
The collision happened just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 21 near the undivided portion of Highway 99 near Deeks Creek, just north of Lions Bay.
麻豆社国产RCMP told The 麻豆社国产 that this was a serious collision involving "varying degrees of injury from minor to very serious."
The BC Ambulance service sent multiple ambulances and the Lions Bay Fire Rescue was on scene to help with various medical injuries that were sustained.
All the occupants in the vehicle travelling southbound were transported to a local area hospital for follow-up care, according to RCMP.
"It appears the one vehicle travelling in the northbound lane crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound vehicle head-on at highway speed," said 麻豆社国产RCMP Staff Sgt. Gareth Bradley in an email to The 麻豆社国产.
Mounties don't believe that intoxication was a factor and are still assessing if speed was an issue.
The investigation is ongoing, Bradley said.
He noted that the highway was closed until about 5:15 p.m., when it reopened to alternating traffic, but delays continued due to congestion.
"We recognize that many people are impacted in a event like this, and our priority is to ensure that we complete a thorough investigation, and to have the highway traffic moving as soon as we can," he said.
