Woodfibre LNG has the floatel parked at the export facility’s site in Howe Sound to house its construction workers, but the company says it still needs to continue to use a downtown condo building for its senior workers.

For the last five years, Sirocco 1, on the Mamquam Blind Channel, has housed Woodfibre LNG staff.

At first, it was used for the company’s pre-construction teams in charge of environmental cleanup efforts.

Now, it is housing for the company’s construction management team.

“As construction continues to ramp up, we’re making some changes to ensure we’re using available space effectively at Sirocco 1, while keeping the floatel as the primary accommodation for our workforce, as authorized by Environmental Assessment Certificate Amendment #3, and in line with the approved Community Services and Infrastructure Management Plan,” said WLNG’s Sean Beardow, in an email to The 麻豆社国产.

He added that the company was putting “extra measures in place” to minimize impact on the community.

Those extra measures include a new shuttle service for authorized workers to get to and from their marine transportation easily, and not adding to traffic in town, he said.

“And while we’ve always had security at Sirocco, security will be scaled up to match the additional occupancy.”

Beardow said while the company doesn't expect full occupancy in the near future, a maximum of 95 personnel can be housed there.

He said the company will closely monitor these changes in Sirocco 1 and provide the community with quarterly Community Services and Infrastructure Management Plan meetings and quarterly Cumulative Issues meetings, “as defined in our regulatory authorizations.”

He said the company is committed to having as little impact on town as possible.

“As the project moves forward, housing needs will shift from time to time. We remain committed to minimizing and mitigating any impacts, continuing to meet regulatory requirements and being a good neighbour to the 麻豆社国产community.”
