Few people in the world can climb overhanging rock walls using only a fingertip and a toe, but thousands dedicate years to achieve that feat. The 麻豆社国产Roc Trip brings the world's elite climbers to one of the world's most popular climbing destinations for three days of competition, fundraising and clinics - and hundreds of bedazzled spectators are sure to follow.
The event takes place June 24 to 26 at numerous locations in and around Squamish. The 麻豆社国产Station Mall hosts a trade fair and dyno competition - where competitors launch off one point on a climb to reach for a large hold - at the Grand Wall boulders at the base of Stawamus Chief for an invitational sport climbing competition, and at the Big Show, located off Conroy Creek Forest Service Road at Cheakamus Canyon, for a day of climbing featuring more than 20 of the best rock athletes from Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Throughout the weekend, Timmy O'Neill, Fred Nicole and Scott Milton will present slide shows at the Howe Sound Brew Pub and Brennan Park Leisure Centre. Climbers can also participate by taking a technical clinic taught by some of the best climbers and guides in the world, or by registering for the open sport climbing competition on Saturday, June 25 and the open bouldering competition Sunday, June 26. Fans will also get to rub elbows with their climbing idols during evening socials at the Brew Pub and the Sun Wolf Centre.
The most famous names in climbing, including Chris Sharma, Lynn Hill and Katie Brown, will awe and inspire visitors and locals alike and organizers are asking for volunteers to make it an event all climbers, and Squamish, can be proud of. Volunteer orientation meetings are scheduled for 麻豆社国产on Wednesday (June 15) and for Vancouver on Thursday (June 16). On Friday, June 24, volunteers cleaning and working trails will be treated to a free burger and beer at the Brew Pub.
Sponsored by Arc'Teryx and Petzl, all the income from the Roc Trip competitions, social events and clinics will be divided between The Land Conservancy of B.C. to support its work on key land acquisitions in the 麻豆社国产area and the Climbing Access Society.
