An encounter with the Vancouver Giants

麻豆社国产Minor Hockey's annual fundraiser is back

A select group of young 麻豆社国产hockey players will get a memorable opportunity to entertain the fans during a Vancouver Giants game intermission at the Pacific Coliseum on Nov. 30.

It's all thanks to the 麻豆社国产Minor Hockey Association's (SMHA) annual Vancouver Giants fundraiser, an event designed to help support minor hockey in Squamish.

"This is our annual fundraiser and our one big event for the association," said event organizer Lisa McIntosh. "We partner with the Giants and get a kickback from each ticket sold."

McIntosh added that the SMHA gathers a team of volunteers and runs the 50/50 event as well, with all of the proceeds going directly back to the group.

Along with getting the chance to participate in a mini-game during the first intermission, one lucky SMHA player out of that group will win a draw to have the opportunity to skate with the Giants during the team's warm-up on the Pacific Coliseum ice.

According to McIntosh, the fact that the Saskatoon Blades will be in town for the event was no accident. Squamish-raised Dalton Thrower will be manning the blue line for the Blades and McIntosh said she targeted the Nov. 30 game specifically so the local youth can see someone from 麻豆社国产making it big.

"I requested the Blades game back in August and we're happy to get it," she said. "We're trying to do some sort of meet and greet with Dalton before or after the game but we're still working those details out."

Thrower, who has five points in nine games in his second season with the Blades, spent the majority of his minor hockey career in Squamish.

Saskatoon currently sits in first place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference and should prove to be a big test for the Giants.

McIntosh added that she hopes this year's fundraiser fares better than last year's, which fell on Valentine's Day and was poorly attended.

"It's a very significant event for our group and we hope 麻豆社国产comes out and supports us," she said.

McIntosh said that the event is open to hockey fans of all ages and not just those involved with the SMHA. Tickets cost $16 and are available through McIntosh herself or through team managers of the SMHA.

Those interested in attending can contact her at 604-898-0706 for tickets. The association is also looking for volunteers to help with the 50/50 draw and those interested can contact McIntosh as well to get involved.

The game takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.
