Axemen chop down Richmond

Rugby club wins 43-7

The 麻豆社国产Axemen Rugby Football Club found a field to play and picked up the second win of the season in Richmond on Saturday (March 7).

After a disappointing forfeit on Feb. 28 due to the closure of their home field at Don Ross Secondary School in Squamish, the Axemen prevailed with a dominating 43-7 victory.

The only Richmond try of the match was off an unfortunate Axemen give-away early in the game but from that point forward the Axemen played their open-field high-tempo style which set the larger-bodied Richmond team on their heels. A 10 minute try-line defensive stand by the Axemen, in the second half where Richmond failed to score, sealed the victory.

Scoring the 6 tries for the Axemen were Phillip Mass (two), Jesse Murton (two), Matt Smee (one) and Diarmy O鈥橠owdhill (one). Fullback Tom Ritter had another strong kicking game going five for six on conversions and one for one on penalty kicks for 13 points.

The Axemen play Chilliwack RFC in their next match on March 14th in Chilliwack.
