The 麻豆社国产Eagles bantam rep team ended a strong season by easily soaring away with a home tourney win over the weekend.

The team hosted Saanich, Alberni Valley and West Vancouver in a four-team round robin to close out this year鈥檚 campaign. From the start, the Eagles scored early and often en route to an 8-0 win over Alberni Valley in the final.听

West Van tied Saanich 7-7 in the third-place game but won during the subsequent shootout.

Over five games, the Eagles almost got through unscathed, as West Van was finally able to put one past 麻豆社国产goalie John Hunter with 1:33 left to play in the third period of the last round robin game. Over the course of the three round robin games, 麻豆社国产racked up 27 goals while giving up only one.听

Field hockey launch

The 麻豆社国产Field Hockey Club is launching its first junior and senior programs this spring.

The club is made up of a small group of local field hockey enthusiasts who have played or coached the sport. The eight-week introduction to field hockey sessions will begin in early May, with dates and times to be confirmed.听

Confirmed instructors include a group of former national team players and Olympians.

The sessions will focus on introducing core skills and basic game play, as well as exposure to the fundamental movement and skills that build agility, balance, coordination and speed for the game. Beginners and those with experience are all welcome. Proposed age groups are U9/U12/U14/U17 and adult. To contact the club, see squamishfieldhockey.com.

My First Fondo

RBC GranFondo is offering My First Fondo 2016 as a way to get ready for this year鈥檚 Vancouver-to-Whistler event on Sept. 10.

My First Fondo is a training program designed for people new to riding or renewing their love of road biking. Certified coaches will guide participants through a 16-week program to teach basic riding skills and prepare riders physically and mentally to complete the RBC GranFondo Whistler.

Depending on road cycling experience and personal goals, beginner and intermediate levels are offered.听The sessions start on May 24 at several locations. For more information, see granfondowhistler.com.
