Battle of the bears at Nationals

Quest Kermodes women's basketball team heads to Nanaimo

The road to a National championship for the Quest University Kermodes women鈥檚 basketball team starts on Thursday (March 19).

Quest, seeded sixth for the eight-team tournament, will open against the Alberta champion Lethbridge Kodiaks for the CCAA tournament.

Lethbridge compiled a record of 22 wins and two losses in regular season play before winning all three playoff games to earn the trip to Nanaimo for the championship tournament.

Top players on Lethbridge include Alberta player of the year Ali Cameron (22.5 points per game), Alberta rookie of the year Sunder West (10.7 ppg) and Emma Lowry (15.1 ppg and 7.4 rebounds per game).

If Quest wins, they play the winner of the VIU Mariners and Holland Hurricanes game, and if they lose, they play the losing team. A loss against Lethbridge would erase the chances of winning a National championship; if it happens, the best Quest could hope for would be a bronze medal.

It鈥檚 only the second time in school history that the Quest women鈥檚 basketball team has reached the Nationals. They failed to win a game at the 2014 CCAA Nationals.

Tip-off for Quest鈥檚 game is 8 p.m. and all games can be viewed online at www.sportscanada.tv.
