For the second straight season, B&B Excavating is the regular season champion in the Howe Sound Men鈥檚 Soccer League (HSMSL).
B&B clinched top spot in the league with a dominant 4-0 win over the Ellis Moving Eagles on Sunday (March 23). The defending champs finished the regular season with a record of eight wins, three losses and two ties and outscored the opposition 41-20 over the season.
Sunday鈥檚 game saw Richard Collins score a pair of goals, with Jag Sangha and Keenan Bir adding singles. B&B built up a 3-0 lead at halftime and didn鈥檛 allow the Eagles to break through the midfield.
Ellis dropped to five wins, three losses and three ties with the setback but can still finish as high as second place. The Eagles have two games remaining and have the ability to leapfrog Sikh Temple if they win both of their remaining games.
The early game saw Ocean Sun defeat Galileo 4-3. It was the first win since Nov. 17 for the fifth-place club and they kept their hopes of finishing fourth alive with the victory.
Charlie Robinson scored a hat trick for Ocean Sun, with Phil Dubrulle also scoring. Galileo had two goals from Istvan Richter and one from Gage Garrett.
Ocean Sun improved to four wins and seven losses and sits four points back of Galileo with one game in hand. They have to hope that Galileo loses its final game and they win the final two games to place fourth.
The final week of action in the HSMSL saw the Eagles battle Ocean Sun on Wednesday (March 26). Results from that game will be in next week鈥檚 edition of The Chief. The regular season concludes on Sunday (March 30), with the Eagles battling Galileo and Ocean Sun playing Sikh Temple.
The HSMSL playoffs begin on April 2 with the fourth- and fifth-place teams playing and the winner of that game takes on B&B on April 6. The second- and third-place regular season finishers also play each other on April 6. The HSMSL finals are scheduled on April 12.
