The B.C. Bike Race (BCBR) is back again and set to invade 麻豆社国产on July 4.
The seven-day epic that traverses its way across the southwestern corner of the province is set for another hard-hitting year and Squamish鈥檚 highly regarded trail network will again be a key part of the event.
Riders hit the local trails on Day 6 of the event and the course is referred to as a combination of the Gearjammer and Test of Metal courses, with an elevation of 1,240 metres and a distance of 37.9 kilometres.
The BCBR begins on Sunday (June 29) and includes stages in North Vancouver, Cumberland, Powell River, Sechelt and Langdale before coming to 麻豆社国产and finishing in Whistler on July 5.
Test of Metal 2014 winners Max Plaxton and Catharine Pendrel are both taking on the seven-day challenge, as is Squamish鈥檚 Greg Day, who was the top local finisher at the Test this year. Also confirmed for the event is Squamish鈥檚 Quinn Moberg, who placed sixth at this year鈥檚 Test.
Another local representative will be Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) athletic director Joel Harwood, who was awarded the Kazlaw Community Foundation Award in March and received a free entry to the event.
Sechelt鈥檚 Kris Sneddon won last year鈥檚 BCBR, with Nanaimo鈥檚 Wendy Simms posting the top cumulative time for the women. Day and his teammate Kevin Calhoun finished first in the open team category last year.听
Day 6 gets underway next Friday (July 4) at 9 a.m., with both the start and finish lines located at Brennan Park. The first riders are expected to cross the finish line at around 11:30 a.m. and there is a free kids race at Brennan Park at 2 p.m.听
