For the second straight year, some of the best young hockey players in the province are coming to Squamish.
The second annual Major Midget weekend is back as three teams from the British Columbia Major Midget League (BCMML) are coming to town for a pre-season mini-tournament from Sept. 13 to 15 at Brennan Park Arena.
Both the Vancouver Northwest Giants and the Vancouver North East Chiefs are returning to Squamish, with the South Island Royals making their first appearance in Squamish.
The Giants were the top team in the BCMML last year, sporting a record of 34 wins, two losses and four ties in the regular season. They also won the B.C. Midget Provincial title last season but lost to the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs in the next round to deny them a trip to the Telus Cup.
The Chiefs placed fourth in the BCMML during the regular season but were then upset by the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the quarterfinals of the BCMML playoffs. It was a different story for the Royals, who finished seventh in the regular season and failed to qualify for the postseason.
Action in 麻豆社国产starts on Sept. 13 when the Chiefs and the Giants square off at 7:30 p.m. The Chiefs return to the ice on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. with a battle against the Royals and the Giants and Royals face-off to conclude the weekend on Sept. 15 at noon.
All games are at Brennan Park Arena and are free to the public. For more information on the weekend and on minor hockey in Squamish, visit www.squamishminorhockey.com.
