The kids were all right at the 12th annual 麻豆社国产Youth Triathlon on Sunday (May 13), with a sold-out field of 230 youngsters who swam, biked and ran their way to excellence.
Race director Mike Hedberg, who was in charge of the race for the first time, said it was a good year for the event.
"The race went great," he said. "The weather was fantastic and we got some great feedback from parents who liked the new finish line location, some of the great live music we had and MC John French."
Hedberg said he was proud of the fact that the event gave volunteers the opportunity to check 170 helmets for proper sizing before the bikers went on the course.
"It's quite interesting to note that some helmets were improperly adjusted," he said. "We have so many great bike stores here in town and I urge parents to get properly fitted there."
He also thanked the 100 volunteers who helped make the event possible and have helped the race continue its five-year sellout streak. Hedberg added that any parent or child wishing to offer additional feedback on the event can do so by sending him a message at [email protected].
As for the race itself, Michael Milic of Delta proved to be the fastest on the day, completing 300 metres in the pool, 12 kilometres cycling and running four kilometers in 41 minutes, 31 seconds. Milic edged out Oli Jarrett from Garibaldi Highlands by more than 10 minutes to win the 14 to 15 year old Boys division.
Squamish's Callista Ryan won the 14 to 15 Girls division with a time of 59:48.5 and was also awarded a week at summer camp donated by Camp Summit for hr community service and spirit of volunteerism.
Other local winners included: Lucy Van Eesteren (Girls 7 and under), Autumn Cramb (Girls 12 to 13) and Josh Cormack (Boys 10 to 11), who won his division at the event for the third time in four years.
Locals who placed in the top three in their respective categories included: Sienna Dickson (Third - Girls 8 to 9), Mikayla Lorimer (Second Girls 12 and 13), Isobelle Williston (Third Girls 12 and 13), Rylan Armstrong (Third - Boys 7 and under), Jordan Muller (Second Boys 8 to 9), Micky Williston (Second Boys 10 to 11), Eli Chappell (Second Boys 12 to 13) and Jack Cormack (Third Boys 12 and 13).
Local teams dominated the relay division with Squamish-based teams The Termintators (8 to 9), The Rock Stars (10 to 11) and The Best of the Best (12 to 13) taking home top prizes.
