Bir, Tatla excel in Las Vegas

Local soccer stars help West Vancouver team win bronze medal

Two 麻豆社国产soccer stars rolled the dice and hit the jackpot at the Las Vegas Players Showcase Tournament, winning the bronze medal there on March 20.

Squamish's Taran Bir and Jag Tatla were key members of the West Vancouver U-18 team, who played the Scottsdale (Arizona) Blackhawks on March 20 to clinch the bronze medal.

However, the highlight of the tournament was the squad's opening game 2-1 win over Nevada's Neusport FC on March 18. It was all the more impressive considering that Neusport FC is ranked as the 13th best U-19 team in the United States.

They followed up the huge win with a scoreless draw against the Texas-based Hooligans FC later that day. The team continued the tournament on March 19, dropping their only game of the weekend 2-0 to Arizona's Valparaiso United.

It's been a strong season for Bir and Tatla, who played for the West Vancouver U-18 team all season and went undefeated, winning the Vancouver Youth Soccer Association's Gold 1 division.

The team will continue playing this spring, with friendlies lined up against the Quest University Kermodes and the Corridor Adult All-Stars. They will also take part in the Easter "Icebreaker" tournament in Kelowna, where the best club and select teams from the B.C. interior and Alberta battle it out for top honours.

They will also take part in a Victoria Day long weekend tournament in Kamloops to close out the spring season.
