BMX Nationals a blazing success

Hundreds of riders descend on 麻豆社国产for first-ever local nationals race

The BMX park was packed, the campground was full and hundreds upon hundreds of riders took to the jumps, ramps and drops of the 麻豆社国产course at the first ever Sea to Sky Nationals, which took place last Friday through Sunday (June 10 to 12).

麻豆社国产BMX president Vicki Schenk had a busy but ultimately rewarding weekend.

"It was a really successful weekend," she said. "It was a good feeling to pull this off, the weather co-operated and everything ran smoothly."

Schenk said the response from the hundreds of out-of-towners who made the trip to 麻豆社国产to compete was overwhelmingly positive.

"Everyone I talked to loved the venue, they loved having the campground just steps away and they loved the scenery we have in Squamish."

Highlights for local racers included a win for all three races for 5 and Under Novice racer Mackenzie Hanwell and 8 Intermediate rider Finn Finestone. For the Saturday and Sunday races, 6 Novice Rider Tyler Liebrecht took home wins on both days as did 10 Novice rider Aiden Dziekan, 11 Intermediate rider Jack Cormack and 28-35 Novice rider Sean O'Sullivan.

More than 1,100 riders competed over the three days and Schenk said there is a possibility that the event will come back to 麻豆社国产next year. Clubs need to apply yearly to host the race and she said it's not out of the question for 麻豆社国产to be awarded the race in 2012.

Next up for local racers will be the Vancouver Island Nationals, which takes place in Victoria from July 8 to 10.
