It might have taken a little longer than expected, but the Quest women鈥檚 soccer team finally has a win in Pacwest regular season action.
The Kermodes answered critics with the best week of the 2014 season with a 2-0 victory over Douglas College on Sunday (Sept. 21) and a 1-1 draw against the Capilano Blues on Saturday (Sept. 20).
Quest鈥檚 Brianna Powrie opened the scoring with a chip shot over the Royals scoring and Sophie Reiner added a goal in the 65th minute to earn new head coach Craig Smith the first regular season win of his career.
It looked like Saturday in 麻豆社国产was destined to be the Kermodes鈥檚 first win of the year, but Quest couldn鈥檛 put a second goal past the Blues goalkeeper despite a number of quality chances.
Forward Daniella Smith opened the scoring late in the first half after a nice right cross set up by defender Madison Maloski. Capilano tied the game up in the second half and Quest failed to take back the lead.
The women sit in fifth place in the Pacwest with a record of one win, three losses and three ties.
The Quest men saw their one game win streak snapped on Saturday after falling 1-0 to Capilano. The Blues scored late in the first half and managed to keep Quest at bay for the remainder of the game.
Quest鈥檚 Taylor Cooper scored early for the Kermodes against Douglas on Sunday, but the Royals answered back in the 70th minute after converting on a penalty kick just outside the box. The Royals were served two red cards but Quest couldn鈥檛 take advantage of the two-man advantage and settled for the 1-1 draw.
The men remain in fourth place with a record of two wins, three losses and two ties.
The teams return to action in 麻豆社国产on Saturday (Sept. 27) when they host the Kwantlen Eagles. The women kick off at 1 p.m., with the men hitting the pitch at 3 p.m. Quest then hits the road to square off against the Langara Falcons on Sunday (Sept. 28).
