Britannia Classic back for 2013

Fifth annual event attracting international names

The Britannia Classic is turning five and the annual longboarding spectacular is set to once again take over the hills of Britannia Beach.

Event organizer Lee Cation said the format will be similar to last year but the riders plan on taking in a few local events while they're in town.

The event will run much like last year, he said, of the event taking place from May 24 to 26. We'll head to the 麻豆社国产Skate Park on Friday (May 24) and watch the roller derby match on Saturday (May 25). Otherwise everything is the same.

The Friday will see a free-ride take place for the majority of the day, with Saturday morning being the last time for participants to register. More freeriding will occur on the site until Saturday afternoon, with riders getting one practice run on the course before qualifying that goes on until 5 p.m. Sunday (May 26) is race day, racers hit the course at approximately 10 a.m., with finals scheduled to take place at 4 p.m.

Cation said that last year's champion Kevin Reimer will be back to defend his title but pointed out that top names like Adam Pearrson from Sweden, Jackson Shaperia from Australia and Max Ballesteros from Brazil will all be competing at this year's event.

A total of $5,000 will be up for grabs and the free, family event will go on in rain or shine. Cation said it's a good idea to bring something comfortable to sit on and recommends that those driving proceed slowly on Copper Drive and park on one side of Goat Ridge Drive only.

The event is still looking for volunteers and all those who want to take part can find out more information at www.britanniaclassic.com.
