For a guy who鈥檚 been racing the iconic Test of Metal competition since he was fourteen, this place on the podium is an example of moving on up.
Now fully grown, Squamish鈥檚 Greg Day captured the bronze in this weekend鈥檚 big bike race, the Sp鈥檃kw鈥檜s 50, clinching third out of all 419 riders in the competition.
Claiming this medal at the successor to the Test of Metal has a special significance for Day, as his best position at the old race was fourth.
Clocking in a time of two hours, 40 minutes and 51 seconds, Day was just seconds behind Ricky Federau, a Chilliwack rider who grabbed silver. North Vancouver cyclist Craig Richey took the gold, making Day the only 麻豆社国产resident in the top three.
鈥淚t鈥檚 always nice to do well in your hometown,鈥 he said with a laugh.聽
Another 麻豆社国产resident did well in the race.
Nick Kleban placed first in the 18 and under division. He was ninth overall of 419 racers.
