Sarah Burke鈥檚 dream of seeing ski halfpipe in the Olympics was realized two months ago at the Sochi Winter Olympics Games.
Now the late 麻豆社国产resident鈥檚 accomplishments on and off the slopes will live on with her induction into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame.听
Burke died at the age of 29 following a training accident in 2012 and never got to compete at the Olympics in the sport she loved and fought to see included.
鈥淚 think she鈥檇 be pretty overwhelmed, she鈥檇 be pretty humbled by the whole thing,鈥 Burke鈥檚 father Gordon Burke said after the Hall of Fame announcement on April 23. 鈥淐ertainly, she鈥檚 had a lot of nice things happen to her lately as far as awards go, but this is a special one.鈥
Burke had a remarkable career in the X Games, winning four gold medals and one silver in superpipe competition. Burke was also the first-ever halfpipe champion at the FIS World Ski Championships in 2005. Before her death, she was one of the favourites to win gold at the halfpipe debut in Sochi.
Back in February, Burke appeared on a commemorative stamp issued by Canada Post and in March the Government of Ontario renamed Highway 93 the Sarah Burke Memorial Highway.听
The Canada Sports Hall of Fame is in Calgary but the induction ceremony for Burke takes place in Toronto in October.
